Do you set New Year’s Resolutions… or goals? New Year’s resolutions are something I typically avoid making, probably because by February I have already forgotten what that resolution was. So what is the point of making them if you’re not going to follow through, or at least try? While I may not follow through on my resolutions, I am someone that sets goals for myself throughout the year. And for some reason, I do a pretty good job at meeting my goals. So this year instead of a resolution I have made three goals.
- My first goal is to be more present. I want to be more in the moment and not always thinking that I need to check my phone or take a picture to capture the moment. I want to live in the moment. Social media is a big part of today’s society. And yes, social media has become an even bigger part of my life now that I have started this blog. But I do want to do a better job of balancing being in the moment and working on building the blog.
- I also want to slow down. I have always been someone that is go, go, go. This was a great trait to have when I was a teacher and had a huge list of things to accomplish daily. I was always able to check everything off my list (remember how I said I liked to meet my goals?). Now that I am a stay at home mom I have the opportunity to be more flexible, which means I can slow down. Instead of being in a rush to get things done, if my husband wants to slow dance in the middle of cooking dinner or cleaning, I want to take that break and join him.
- My final goal is to work my hardest to see everything in a positive light. We had some extreme highs in 2017, the biggest being the birth of our daughter. But with those highs, we had the lowest of lows. During this time I really didn’t stay positive. In 2018 I want to try my best to be positive even when it’s difficult to do so.
So here is to you 2017. You truly were a roller coaster ride but one that I would ride again. I couldn’t have imagined a better time for our daughter to come into our lives and help us see the world with a whole new perspective. 2018 will only bring great things.
Do you make New Year’s resolutions or goals? If so what are yours?
Cheers to a happy New Year!
