While most people in the winter months travel somewhere warm and tropical, we do the opposite. Last month we left the warm weather and we took our first family vacation to the colder weather – Madison, Wisconsin.
Every year we love to take a little getaway to the colder weather. Our favorite place to go to is Madison, for a few reasons. Family, food & drinks, and the weather.
We thought Olivia’s first plane ride should be to go visit family and we happened to find crazy cheap flights to Chicago on Southwest… less than $100 a person. Honestly, I felt like it would have been financially irresponsible to not buy the tickets. So off to Wisconsin we went, in the middle of January!
If you read my previous post, you know we spend an entire day in Green Bay. We toured Lambeau Field and enjoyed all that Green Bay has to offer. We loved this part of our trip. If you want to see more about Lambeau, check out that post.
Besides Lambeau, we basically ate our way around Madison. My favorite part about traveling to Madison (besides family) is the cheese curds and beer. Who could not love those two things?
These restaurant and breweries were our favorites when we were there, and best of all, they are all family friendly.
The Old Fashioned – This restaurant is our favorite and is a staple in Downtown Madison. They have great old fashions (hence the name), delicious sandwiches, along with plenty of other food choices. They are always packed so be prepared to wait. But it is well worth it.
And their Bloody Mary’s are spot on
The Flying Hound – Their cheese curds, burgers, and beer selection was on point. In fact, I still crave the queso that came with their Mexican Burger.
Quivey’s Grove – this is such a unique restaurant. It is an old barn turned into a restaurant. The inside is just stunning. They have a secret tunnel (that they allow you to go in) that connects the two different restaurants on property. Besides the wonderful atmosphere, the food was delicious. And they have homemade chocolate fudge for their sundaes.
HopCat – This restaurant has the largest tap selection of beers from all around the world. They are known for their crack fries, which are absolutely addicting.
Karben4 Brewery – If you’re looking for good beer, go here!
Ale Asylum – I loved the atmosphere of this brewery. They have a large area downstairs. We decided to go to the small lounge area upstairs and it was perfect. It was more intimate for our group.
We can’t wait for our next family trip. The next destination will be a tropical one! What kind of family vacations do you like?
